Do you like working here?

You might think itu adalah jenis pertanyaan yang akan gw tanyakan ke seorang teman dekat. Temen yang udah lama kerja di suatu perusahaan dan gw penasaran apa yang membuat dia betah, hehe. Atau setidaknya itu adalah jenis pertanyaan yang ditanyakan ke orang yg lu udah kenal, jadi lu tahu it was safe to asked this kind of personal question.

Tapi tidak untuk kali ini. Believe it or not, itu adalah pertanyaan yang gw ajukan ke interviewer gw yang notabene adalah calon bos gw. Of course, dengan anggapan bahwa gw akan lolos interview ini setelah gw dengan cueknya menanyakan hal seperti itu ke dia, hahahah. But seriously, I don’t know why, it’s just the first question that crossed my mind when he asked ‘anything you want to ask me?’

Mungkin karena gw memang tidak punya ekspektasi apapun ketika interview. The  only reason I went for the interview, karena yang akan gw temui adalah expat di sebuah perusahaan ternama dengan posisi sebagai Chief Financial Officer.  I’m just curious. Gw ingin tahu sang CFO ini orangnya seperti apa, what he looks like, what his way of thinking, what kind of person is he, you know those things... I know it sounds weird, seharusnya dia yang pingin tahu tentang gw, bukannya gw yang penasaran. Tapi boleh doonk, penasaran sama orang yang ceritanya bakal jadi calon bos gw. Kan nantinya gw bakal sering banget kerja ma dia, ya gak? I just want to know him, that’s all. I don’t really care actually, whether he’s going to like me or not. The worst thing that will happen, I won’t get the job. Which means, I won’t meet him again,  so why bother? 

Jadi terlontarlah pertanyaan itu : ‘Anda suka kerja disini?’

I can see that he was quite surprised with the question. And after that, he’s laughed. Iya, dia ketawa sambil agak-agak salah tingkah. I bet this is the first time ever for him ada orang yang diwawancara nanya seperti itu, hehehehh. Dan dia pun menjawab pertanyaan gw.

“I think you ask that question to the wrong person. Because I’m  pretty much this company (he mention the company’s brand) person”

“And what kind of person is that?” kejar gw dengan another pertanyaan yang sebenernya klo dipikir-pikir mulai kurang ajar. But then, udah terlanjur, kan gw jadi penasaran..

Dia tertawa, lagi. “I don’t know. Its quite hard to describe it in words. But I have been with this company for more than seven years..” dia sampai menghitung dengan tangannya untuk memastikan “ and I really enjoy it. If someone from another company come to me and offering me a job, I’m sure my answer will be no”

Gw mulai menikmati percakapan ini. Dan mulailah sang CFO ini bercerita tentang awal mula karirnya, bagaimana dia mulai bergabung dengan perusahaannya ini. Posisi apa saja yang pernah dipegangnya selama tujuh tahun ini. Apa yang membuat dia betah kerja di  Indonesia. Apa yang membuat dia bangga dengan  perusahaan ini, and I can see that he mean it. He really believes what he told me, and that’s interesting. Finally he said this :

“I don’t say this company is the best, every company will always have the good and bad side. But if you finally joining this company, you will know  by yourself. So, answering your question, yes I like work in here.”

It supposed to be my interview. But what happen was, kebanyakan dia yang ngomong dan gw dengerin. Hahahhaha. Begitu kita udahan, dia cuman komentar singkat “you asked more question than I did” dan gw pun cuma nyengir. Yahhh yang suka ngomong kan situ, gw nanyanya cuma sekalimat, dijawabnya separagraf…

Overall, it was a fun experience. To be able to have a chit-chat with that CFO. This is what I like from an interview : a chance to get to know someone. Apalagi klo posisinya sudah di level top management. And it’s not just one side, tapi yang diinterview juga boleh donk nanya-nanya kepoo ke si interviewer. Klo cocok berarti jodoh, klo gak ya berarti ada tempat lain yang lebih baik, hahahhaha.

This is late post. Been write this almost a year ago, and just posted it now. 
I passed the interview but I finally decided not to join the company. Too bad, because I really like the CFO that I met during the interview, hehe. Well, perhaps we’re not mean to work together...
